Jenny Smith began training in classical ballet at the age of four at The Ballet School in southern Georgia where she danced for thirteen years and became an assistant instructor while in high school. As an undergraduate, she trained at Dance Arts, Inc. and also took courses in ballet and pointe technique, history, and pedagogy at Valdosta State University. She has taught children's and youth ballet classes at Dance Arts, Inc. (Georgia), Southold Dance Theater (Indiana), and New Haven Ballet (Connecticut). Jenny holds graduate degrees in both History and Religion from the University of Notre Dame, Yale Divinity School, and the Yale Institute of Sacred Music. She is currently pursuing a PhD in European history from the University of California, Berkeley. She is thrilled to join Berkeley City Ballet this year and share her love of ballet with students.
